About Ben UFO
As one of the co-founders of Hessle Audio, Ben UFO has been responsible, alongside Pearson Sound and Pangaea, for some of the most varied and ground breaking releases of recent years. Having become immersed in the still emerging dubstep scenes in London and Leeds in 2005, his musical taste was shaped primarily by the DMZ and Sub Dub nights taking place in those cities. However, as tastes have shifted and scenes have fragmented, Ben UFO’s approach to the music and to Hessle Audio itself has developed.

As BPMs have dropped and influences have broadened, so too has the vision of Ben UFO’s DJing. He remains one of the few DJs in the UK to have made an impact without a production career to fall back on, and as such his reputation is solely the result of his skill as a selector and as a mixer. As a result he remains in a position to fully explore sounds both old and new, across the worlds of house and garage, dubstep and grime, and further into the past. This level of commitment to the dance music of the last two decades has led to a collection of records which reflects the position London has long held as a city responsible for the constant development of forward thinking music.

This is not to say that his focus is primarily on the sounds of the old school, as Ben UFO is looked to as one of the leading figures supporting up and coming producers. He was the first DJ to play material by producers such as Blawan and Joy Orbison, both now scene figureheads, and his biweekly slot on London’s leading ex-pirate radio station, RinseFM, is considered to be one of the only places to hear the most exclusive new music by both new and established producers.

In addition to well received podcasts in magazines and websites as varied as Resident Advisor, XLR8R, Red Bull Music Academy and Fact Magazine, 2011 was the year that Ben UFO entered the world of commercially released mix CDs. His contribution to the respected RinseFM series was widely praised for its coherence despite the breadth of styles showcased, and he was placed #35 in a Resident Advisor readers’ poll to find the years best DJ. It’s a result which reflects Ben UFO’s ability to successfully present unfamiliar, experimental dance music to a diverse variety of audiences worldwide.

Ben UFO plays from 11pm – 1am on RinseFM (www.rinse.fm / 106.8FM in London) on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Somehow it’s already been a two year run of Bubblin monthlies! From it’s first event in April 2010 with the West Coast debut of UK Funky pioneer Roska, Bubblin has seen a great run of singular bookings and dance parties. We’ve been honored to host many memorable events that saw the Pac NW debuts of trailblazing artists such as Pearson Sound/Ramadanman, Dave Nada, Kyle Hall, Zed Bias, Nguzunguzu, LOL Boys, Distal, Dubble Dutch, Dre Skull, and numerous others. It’s been really awesome! We’re so thankful to have a pasionate core of amazing people that have been so support both at shows and online.

For our two year celebration we’re thrilled to be bringing HxdB back to PDX, who laid down one of the very finest sets we’ve ever heard at a Bubblin in July 2011. HxdB is unquestionably at the forefront of mutant garage/house sounds in the Pac NW, with a huge new release alongside fellow Bubblin alum Distal on iconic UK label Tectonic that is currently blazing up the charts. He always comes well equipped with a slew of unreleased dubs to fuel his impeccable and unfailing DJ taste and timing. We can’t wait to hear what he’s got in store for us!

PDX superbadmen Danny Corn and Barisone will be on hand as well, providing stellar local support along with your faithful Bubblin residents Ben Tactic and Lincolnup.

-> For over 17 years, Danny Corn has been on the vanguard of electronic music, leaving the trends to other people. As a DJ, he is known as an instrumental player in the formation of the “west coast” sound and over the years has traveled extensively and played with just about everybody who has made moves in the scene. A champion of syncopated, bass heavy music, Danny Corn rides the edge of experimental sounds, whilst staying firmly committed to the dancefloor. A recent move to Portland, OR has found Danny Corn taking time to channel all of his experience into music production. His current sets are a eclectic mix of originals, exclusives and personal favorites.

-> Barisone is without a doubt one of PDX’s best loved DJ’s. His magnanimous presence and penchant for putting the dancefloor into sublime outer spaces is well known. With versatile crates that seamlessly span the upfront to the time tested, Barisone comes with dj sets filled with his own loops, layers, and edits that always set the party off.

* This will be the final installment of Bubblin’s monthly residence parties. Fret not however, we’ll still be doing one off events to ensure that PDX can get it’s proper fix of upfront house, garage, and tropical bass, beginning with highly regarded DJ and Hessle Audio co-operator Ben UFO (London, UK) at Groove Suite on Sunday, May 20, 2012.

NATHAN DETROIT, fresh off of unintentionally showing up Morgan Geist and Sal P at Red Bull’s NY to PDX event. Our guy has been on a tear of late, releasing a grip of excellent mixes that have drawn positive notices from the likes of Move D. TASTE meets SKILLZ.

SPEKT 1, helmsman of BLAST Fridays at Crown Room, one of a few heads in town featuring and booking Bubblin style sounds. Responsible for Clicks & Whistles’ PDX debut. Giving folks an alternative to having their faces melted and keeping SUBTLE DYNAMICS alive on PDX dancefloors.

And your dudes LINCOLNUP and BEN TACTIC doing what they do, keeping it upfront whilst taking care of that back.

Abstract Earth Project and Bubblin are amped to be teaming up in welcoming back one of our very favorite DJ/Producers, Pearson Sound. This time round we’re hosting him within the cozy confines of Groove Suite, Portland’s premier house music club, on their impeccable Alignment Sound System, complete with perfectly tuned 21″ subwoofers. This is going to be hands down one of the best dance parties of the year, don’t miss this unique chance to see one of the most celebrated producer/dj’s of our times in this ideal and intimate venue.

About Pearson Sound

Following a momentous year of releases in 2010 and having concentrated his output under the Pearson Sound moniker, David Kennedy’s following 12 months have been just as busy; but for different reasons.

Releasing a critically acclaimed FABRICLIVE compilation in March he’s since remixed and opened for one of music’s most respected acts, Radiohead, in New York. Having travelled across Europe on the first Hessle Audio tour of the continent he’s also DJd on the London Eye, lectured at Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid and he’s constantly finding himself in new and interesting positions; whether that’s following Moodymann on a Sunday afternoon in a London basement or pre-empting Rusko at an open air festival.

Still very much a key component in the running of the Hessle Audio label, whose ‘116 & Rising’ compilation managed to emphatically collate their history whilst simultaneously looking to the future and their imminent 20th release, Kennedy’s output as Ramadanman may have ceased, but his subsequent work as Pearson Sound and as Chicago house ‘legend’ Maurice Donovan commands much the same level of gravitas with long sold out white label releases and a 12” on Night Slugs.

Musically, he’s looking forward, refusing to sit still or be easily categorised. And with his latest productions feeding more from the classic notions of 4×4 dancefloor music and his sets retaining every inch of precision and his selection spreading out further as his knowledge of music grows he has established himself as one of the UK’s most in demand artists.
