Abstract Earth Project and Bubblin are amped to be teaming up in welcoming back one of our very favorite DJ/Producers, Pearson Sound. This time round we’re hosting him within the cozy confines of Groove Suite, Portland’s premier house music club, on their impeccable Alignment Sound System, complete with perfectly tuned 21″ subwoofers. This is going to be hands down one of the best dance parties of the year, don’t miss this unique chance to see one of the most celebrated producer/dj’s of our times in this ideal and intimate venue.

About Pearson Sound

Following a momentous year of releases in 2010 and having concentrated his output under the Pearson Sound moniker, David Kennedy’s following 12 months have been just as busy; but for different reasons.

Releasing a critically acclaimed FABRICLIVE compilation in March he’s since remixed and opened for one of music’s most respected acts, Radiohead, in New York. Having travelled across Europe on the first Hessle Audio tour of the continent he’s also DJd on the London Eye, lectured at Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid and he’s constantly finding himself in new and interesting positions; whether that’s following Moodymann on a Sunday afternoon in a London basement or pre-empting Rusko at an open air festival.

Still very much a key component in the running of the Hessle Audio label, whose ‘116 & Rising’ compilation managed to emphatically collate their history whilst simultaneously looking to the future and their imminent 20th release, Kennedy’s output as Ramadanman may have ceased, but his subsequent work as Pearson Sound and as Chicago house ‘legend’ Maurice Donovan commands much the same level of gravitas with long sold out white label releases and a 12” on Night Slugs.

Musically, he’s looking forward, refusing to sit still or be easily categorised. And with his latest productions feeding more from the classic notions of 4×4 dancefloor music and his sets retaining every inch of precision and his selection spreading out further as his knowledge of music grows he has established himself as one of the UK’s most in demand artists.

For our first Bubblin of 2012 we’re elated to be teaming up with PDX juggernaut crew Dropping Gems to bring you the Pacific NW debut of burgeoning producer/dj LDFD out of Dallas, TX. LDFD caught quite a few ears in 2011 when he dropped his debut EP “Outtacontrol” on Daedalus’s Magical Properties label. The roundly lauded and applauded release explored sonic spaces ranging from thickly, richly textured boom baps to glistening garage house winners. We all came to realize that LDFD’s sounds are a natural common ground for Dropping Gems and Bubblin to meet upon and have a cracking party! And then we went and added Celoso’s vibrant live laptop and drums show (they crushed it at Flux in November), a magical dj set from the illustrious Gumar, the wondrous electro analog-acoustic explorations of Citymouth, plus your trusted Bubblin Residents Ben Tactic and Lincolnup, all making for another Bubblin that’s readily set to pop off…

More about the artists…

LDFD
http://soundcloud.com/ldfd
http://www.alphapuprecords.com/releasepage.php?UPC=669158523047

Justin Ledford, aka LDFD, became obsessed with making music since he was given a guitar by his uncle at age 9. Since then he has been taking in a wide range of influences to create his own sound. He was studying jazz guitar at the time that he started making beats on an SP-404 and soon dropped his lessons to spend more time creating rather than practicing. Shortly after, he got a set of turntables and started mixing dubstep (at a time when the term “brostep” was unheard of). LDFD’s sound has landed somewhere between the “beat scene” and “bass music” with touches of jazz funk and southern hip hop. Across the span of 2011, LDFD has preformed at shows with Daedelus, Low Limit, Tokimonsta, Shlohmo, Samiyam, Sepalcure, Free The Robots, EPROM, Distal and Dubbel Dutch.

Celoso
http://www.subdivnet.com/2011/12/13/2011-recap-celoso-2/

Quick on the come-up but no strangers to the ever evolving sounds of forward thinking dance music, CELOSO consists of Portland long timer, Graintable (Jim Cooke) and Devin Landau on live drums (agent at Surefire Agency North America). Together the duo melds minimal house, techno, and 808 driven floor movers to create a live show that not only has a percussive ebb and flow that is efficient, but a certain simplicity to keep the vibe flowing as well.

Citymouth
http://www.droppinggems.com/citymouth
http://droppinggems.bandcamp.com/album/holodecker-ep
http://soundcloud.com/citymouth

Kris Geffen, aka Citymouth, holds a deep appreciation for field recording, tape manipulation, modular synthesis, intricate percussive sequencing, and the outcome of combining these elements. Since the beginning he has consistently taken inspiration from the psychedelic, the soulful, and the inexplicable. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, he had an early exposure to live music and began playing piano at the age of 6. In 2005 he moved to the Pacific Northwest, and quickly became involved in the local music scene, performing as part of Seattle’s Pill Wonder and recording a superabundance of bedroom hip hop material with Olympia’s Nag Champa. During this time he also became immersed in The Evergreen State College’s music technology labs, where he mined for new sounds using old tricks.
His most recent work under the Citymouth moniker exemplifies the results of these explorations. Citymouth’s compositions spark a conversation between those evolving incarnations of electronic music that often refuse to acknowledge each other. Never settling too comfortably into a specific pace, the decidedly non-dancefloor-centric sonic experiments meld together elements of beauty from many sources. Expect to hear expansions on the electro-acoustic pairings of the recent avant-guard hip hop movement, injected with a unique combination of frenetic intelligence and analog warmth.
The debut Citymouth EP entitled Holodecker was released March 29, 2011 via Dropping Gems. His work has been met with positive reviews and featured by many respected music hubs, including XLR8R and Create Digital Music. He’s shared the stage with the likes of Teebs, Devonwho, Groundislava, Asura, Anenon, Matthewdavid, Yuk., as well as many other talented artists up and down the west coast. He is currently in the process of recording a full-length album and has a slew of tracks set for release on various international compilations.

Re: Dropping Gems

Dropping Gems is a label and collective of artists based in the Pacific Northwest.
Our goal is to share our vision of the future of humanity, particularly as it’s expressed in the form of electronic music.
We produce and release albums, and we throw shows for people to come see what we do. We serve as a DIY conduit between the Northwest and producers from around the country. We are asked to curate things. But mainly we sit around a table and kick it.

For Bubblin XXI we welcome distinguished and esteemed PDX selectors Dave Quam, Roane, Jusayn, and Dhug into the mix.

Dave Quam is a writer, photographer, producer, and DJ whose work has appeared in XLR8R, The Wire, DJ Magazine, and Shook to name a few. His blog, It’s After the End of the World, is one of the seminal portals into the kaleidoscopic regional/global bass sounds of yesterday and today. He’s recently relocated back to his hometown of Portland from Chicago, where he extensively documented and participated in the Windy City’s vibrant Juke/Footwork scene – the latest sounds out of Chicago that are currently reverberating on dancefloors round the world. His crates are as deep and varied as any to be found in the global bass continuum. We’re stoked to have him come though and light up the Bubblin set!

Roane and Jusayn both rep Portland’s eclectic, freewheeling collective Grand Cooley with commendable aplomb. After witnessing their excellent and rousing B2B set at a wild house party late this past summer, they went onto our short list of locals to put on. Vinyl purists both, their crates are stocked with irreproachable house and boogie tracks plus a shockingly deep selection of super choice freestyle cuts. Trust these fellows are gonna nice up the dance properly!

Dhug, of the madcap Chickenhed crew, first heard Moombahton at Dave Nada’s rowdy December 2010 PDX debut at Bubblin and was fully smitten by the sound. A year later, we’re pumped to have him coming through to lace us with a smoothed out moombah set to get Bubblin XXI started.

GENERATION BASS PRESENTS MOOMBAHLUV VOL. II

Posted in Ben Tactic, Moombahton on October 31, 2011 by bentactic

Generation Bass and Dj UMB have been huge supporters of Moombahton since the get, and they just dropped Moombahluv Vol. II.  It also just happens to feature a new tune by yours truly.   If you dug Heartbreaks Moombahsoul compilations or any of the smoother, more vibed out moombah sounds this comp is a slam dunk for you.

Foreword by Neil Queen-Jones

Dance music as we know it has always needed to prove itself. After the acid house boom the taunt was that it couldn’t sell albums – Orbital and The KLF soon shot that notion down. Every single genre since then has had to stare down dissenters, so the onus would always be on Moombahton to prove that it amounts to more than an airhorn and a dem bow rhythm. But this scene is about defying convention at every turn, so it comes as no surprise it’s already actioned its own evolution, and Generation Bass, always at the sharp end of this new tropical explosion, set down a marker for progression and a sign of Moombahton coming of age with Moombahluv Vol.1, which amended the template, setting a new path for a more mature sound, one that wasn’t reliant on bangers, one that stood up to scrutiny.

Volume 2 was a given, and Gen Bass has ensured there’s been no compromise or drop-off in quality. A compilation that soundtracks and shapes this exciting scene, it represents the true scope of the creative minds at work, ranging from Heartbreak’s glacial soul stylings through to Big Makk’s core-tinged expansion of the sweeping melodics of Lykke Li, this captures the mood of a movement. With artists like Riot Earp, Ben Tactic, Stlkrfxxx, Jamrock and others involved, Moombahluv Vol.2 creates a startling vision of where this thing may find itself in the coming month and years to come.

New Tactic Tracks!

Posted in Ben Tactic, Brent Tactic, Bubblin, Moombahton, remix, Tactic, Think 2wice on September 21, 2011 by bentactic

Couple new tracks from the Tactic camp to share with everyone.

First up is an original track Brent and I finished a couple weeks ago called ‘Grindin On You’.  I’ve been calling it slo-mo garage, but if you are getting deep into some moombahsoul or slower house it should fit in pretty well. We are actually working on an EP of tunes in this vein, so keep any eye out this fall for the release.

Tactic – Grindin On You

Next up are a couple dancehall/bashment joints from yours truly. She’s Hot is a more vibed out summer jam and the Aidonia edit is a straight dancehall club banger. Enjoy!

Ben Tactic – She’s Hot

Aidonia – Ukku Bit (Ben Tactic Edit)
